Barbiturates    
What does it look like?
Normaly in tablet or capsule form but also available as an injection
 
What is it?
Barbituates are seditave/hypnotics which act as central nervous system depressants. There are 2 types. There are "Short acting" (approx 15 mins) and "Long acting" (approx 24hrs or longer).

Street names
Barbs, blockbusters, Christmas trees, goof balls, pinks, red devils, reds and blues, yellow jackets.

Short term effects
Slurred speech, shallow breathing, fatigue, disorientation, lack of cordination and concentration, dilated pupils, mild euphoria, lowered inhibitions, sleepiness, judgement and memory impairment, irritability, paranoia, impairs driving ability.

Long term effects
Impairment of memory and judgement, hostility, depression, mood swings, chronic fatigue, hangover, nausea, seizures, can be fatal if mixed with alcohol or other depressants.

The Law
Barbituates are classified as a "CLASS B " drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act unless prepared for injection where it becomes a "CLASS A" drug

Detection
Detection in urine for up to 4 weeks
